NK Day 2014: An Overview

NK Day 2014: An Overview

Last week Thursday, we held our annual company retreat – this time at Kalamazoo Country Club. Here’s a look at how we spent our day:

Growing NK

We started the morning with a workshop facilitated by Amy MacMillan, Associate Professor of Marketing at Kalamazoo College. Together we explored the topic of NK’s business growth by using the system outlined in Edward de Bono’s book, Six Thinking Hats. With Amy’s expert guidance (and funny hats) we were able to have a truly productive and healthy discussion about future growth opportunities for NK.

Following our workshop, we invited Ron Kitchens, CEO of Southwest Michigan First, to speak to our team about our local Kalamazoo community. Covering topics such as art, education, and economic development, we all came out of the session feeling inspired and more connected to Kalamazoo. Playing perfectly into our theme for the day, ‘Happy’, Ron was kind enough to provide us all with a copy of Shawn Achor’s book, Before Happiness: The 5 Hidden Keys to Achieving Success, Spreading Happiness, and Sustaining Positive Change.

Whose Klein is it Anyway?

After lunch, we switched gears for our interactive exercise, strengthening communication, collaboration and techniques within NK, facilitated by Dann Sytsma and Brian Lam of Improv Effects. By employing a number of warm-up exercises, games, and communication techniques, Dann and Brian were able to teach us how the principles of improv comedy can effectively translate to the business world – needless to say we had a blast with this one!

We plan to continue exploring each of these topics in greater detail, so stay tuned for more as we begin applying our new found knowledge at NK.

If you would like to know more about any of the activities from our NK Day, give us a shout @newhallklein.

Introducing the newest NK designed website: lifeatthesprings.com While this senior living property is still in development, the new site is already hard at work with several lots sold through leads generated on the website within the first few days after launch.
