Another Website Wins Award!

Over the years I have project managed many complex websites and other application development projects and like many others that came before it, this one was a bear…or should I say a BRUIN: all sleepy and cranky from a loooooong hibernation, this website had tufts of fur wound up and matted, crust in its vision and was hungry for a feast in the form of navigation experts, SEO techs, designers and more. But underneath all the grit and gravel and twigs and twine, there was a soft underbelly and a need to reclaim its space in the digital ecosphere. So we helped the bruin out of its slumber and into an award winning, gleaming website, shiny fur and all.

We were not alone, however. Nearly two years ago today, Kellogg Community College (Go Bruins!) sent out an RFP for the website overhaul, to which we responded and were granted partnership. For the next year and a half, we worked in tandem with this client — who owned their role, supported ours entirely and participated at every level necessary — to take over 600 pages of content, evolve technology platforms, build a layered administrative component to the CMS which allowed for nearly 100 editors to manage and maintain the site, and design a navigable, responsive site that spoke to multitudes of audience segments in a simple way. After submitting the site for an award through the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, an organization that recognizes community and technical colleges for their work in these areas, our clients were notified this week that amongst some stiff competition, they have received a Bronze Medallion. This is 3rd place in their district, which covers all of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Ontario. We’re very happy for them and proud to be able to say we partnered with them on this project.

Without going into unnecessary detail on the site’s unique attributes, it is one that will go down in my professional history as one of the best projects I’ve ever worked on. For many positive reasons — some of those positives realized AFTER the fact, AFTER you’ve learned, an experience many of us who work on digital projects know well — but mainly the people who worked on it. Coupled with client leadership and experienced agency talent (insert picture of NKers standing here shoulder to shoulder, big bright gleaming smiles filling up their faces), patience and humility reigned.

And it reigns yet. After winning the award, our clients sent us notice and a thank you almost immediately after receiving it. Now that says way more about them than our beloved bruin of a site, albeit a beast of a web property.

NKProud to have such great partners. Check out the site here.
